The company’s founders initially started developing heated apparel due to their own desire to explore the outdoors in comfort during the colder months. After many prototypes, the result was a signature heated jacket which quickly gained popularity and has led them to where they are today.

Now, Venustas produces more than 40 different products, including heated gloves, vests and socks. And they are constantly innovating new pieces to make outdoor winter activities as comfortable as possible.

Venustas Heated Jacket Overview

The jacket which Venustas sent me to try is the Women’s Classic Heated Jacket 7.4V, which is one of their best-sellers. This style comes in a men’s version as well. And Venustas also make various other styles of men’s, women’s and unisex heated jackets.

The jacket arrived packaged in a reusable packing cube-style bag, and comes with a battery, charger and user manual. Venustas also provide a one year warranty, which covers any malfunction or defects of the heating system.

The classic Venustas jacket is a hip-length slim-fit hooded jacket in black, which looks just like a regular winter jacket. It’s water-resistant and insulated, and is designed to keep you warm and dry, even without the heating turned on.

The style of the jacket is very versatile, sleek and trendy. It’s quite a sporty looking jacket, but it also fits in well in a city environment. It’s advertised as being ideal for both outdoor activities and casual wear, and I can see why.

This is a jacket which you could easily wear for a wide range of occasions, from walking your dog, to commuting to work, or even for skiing and snowboarding!

And, impressively, despite the heating system, it can also be machine washed, which makes it more practical than many other winter jackets, which often need to be dry-cleaned.

Product Specifications

Before I go into my experience with the classic heated jacket, here is a bit more about the jacket’s specifications.

Design

Outer Shell

The classic Venustas jacket has a 100% polyester shell, which is water and wind resistant. This is ideal to see you through snow storms in the middle of winter, as well as wet fall and spring days. I’ve worn the jacket in multiple weather conditions and it held up really well, keeping me dry and warm every time.

Lining

The jacket is lined with a silver mylar thermal lining which is designed to retain the optimal amount of heat. From my experience, this worked exceptionally well, as I never felt too cold or too hot in the jacket.

Features

The jacket has high-quality YKK zippers, retractable windscreens, adjustable cuffs and multiple pockets, including fleece-lined outer pockets, and an internal chest pocket where you can keep items like your phone warm.

But my favourite feature is the hood, which is both adjustable and detachable. It’s large enough to comfortably fit over a hat and is also fleece-lined for extra comfort and warmth.

The detachable feature is particularly handy, as removing the hood gives the jacket a slightly sleeker look. This makes it suitable to wear in a more professional setting, like to the office, or for an evening out.

Heating System

The classic Venustas jacket has 5 heating zones, keeping your entire upper body warm! This includes both sides of the chest, both shoulders and the upper back.

And, the jacket has 3 different heating settings, so you can adjust it to your preferred warmth. This is particularly great if you’re someone who warms up quickly when moving, as you can start on one of the warmer settings, and lower the temperature as you heat up from the activity you’re doing.

The battery setting also lasts a long time, providing heat for up to 8 hours on the low setting, and 3 hours on the high setting. And, it’s also very compact and lightweight, weighing just 6.56oz.

The battery slots into a dedicated pocket on the inside of the jacket, where you connect it, and you barely notice it’s there. Plus, it has a USB port, so it can double up as a power bank to charge small devices on the go, like your phone!

My Review of the Classic Heated Jacket

When Venustas first reached out to me I was both curious and excited to try their heated jacket. I hadn’t previously owned any heated apparel, but I was aware of its growing popularity. So, I was curious to try it for myself, to see whether it was worth the hype.

My biggest concern initially was whether the product would actually make a difference in terms of warmth, compared to my other winter jackets. I’ve owned a range of excellent quality down jackets, technical outer layers and ski gear over the years, so I had pretty high standards.

I started off by doing some research into the heated apparel available on the market. I already knew that Venustas was one of the most reputable brands out there. But I quickly discovered that the thing that seemed to set them apart from their competitors was the design and comfort of their jackets.

And having now had the time to test the Venustas jacket myself, I understand why.

When I first received my Venustas jacket I was immediately impressed by the jacket’s quality. It looks expensive, the fabric feels really durable and all the small details (from the stitching to the zippers) appear to be very high quality.

When I tried the jacket on, it fit perfectly and I loved how it looked. The slightly fitted look is elegant but sporty, which suits my style. And the jacket is super comfortable! Not only is it very warm (even without the heating turned on), but it’s also roomy enough to move easily and feels very cozy, despite it’s somewhat tailored look.

My experience using the heating system

As for the heating system, it worked great for me, and I found it really easy to use.

Once the battery is charged, it just connects to a cable inside an inner pocket in the jacket. Then you press the power button on the front of the jacket for 3 seconds to turn it on.

When you first press the button, the jacket is meant to preheat for about 5 minutes. But, you can feel it starting to warm up almost instantly. It then automatically adjusts to the medium heat setting, which I find ideal for when I’m first leaving the house.

You can then click the button again to cycle through the heat settings. The button will light up blue for low, white for medium and red for high, so it’s easy to find the right setting. Once I get moving outside I always warm up quickly, so being able to switch to a lower setting was great for me.

And the high setting is great for those exceptionally cold days, or times when you might be sitting or standing still in the cold for a longer period of time.

As I mostly use the low setting, I haven’t experienced running out of battery yet. So, in my experience, the battery life seems to be as advertised, up to 8 hours.

From my research, the battery life is slightly shorter than that of some of the competitors. (Some companies claim to have up to 10 hours of battery life). But this isn’t an issue for me, as I can’t imagine spending longer than 8 hours outside in one go in winter anyway!

Is this the best winter jacket?

If you’re someone who really feels the cold, will be spending long periods of time outside, or will be sitting still in the cold (such as at hockey games), then this may well be the best winter jacket for you!

Plus, the fact that you can control the heat setting, or wear it with the heating system turned off altogether, means that the jacket can be worn on both extremely cold and milder winter days. As such, it’s much more versatile than traditional winter jackets which can often be too hot for everyday use.

Therefore, this is one of the most practical pieces of cold-weather apparel to own, which can see you through the entire winter season.

Other Venustas Products

In addition to their heated jackets, Ventusas also sell a range of other heated clothing and accessories, to keep you warm throughout the winter. These include heated gloves, vests, hoodies and socks.

You can browse the full range of Venustas heated products on their website.

Final Thoughts on the Venustas Heated Jacket

The Venustas Women’s Classic Heated Jacket 7.4V is a well-designed jacket which is not only comfortable and stylish, but also provides hours of warmth on cold winter days.

Overall, this jacket lives up to its purpose of making spending time outside more comfortable in the cold. And, on top of this, it’s also a great all-round winter jacket, which can be adjusted to suit your needs, and is suitable for almost any outdoor activity and occasion.
