Review of Siamo Nel Forno, Palermo Hollywood

More than half the Argentinian population is of Italian descent, so Italian food is everywhere in Buenos Aires. There seems to be ice cream, fresh pasta, or pizza on every corner. But while the gelato and pasta live up to their Italian roots, Argentines have their own take on Pizza which deviates quite substantially from the Italian classic.

To get the full Buenos Aires experience, we would recommend trying a typical BA pizza. But if you are looking for the BEST pizza in Buenos Aires then you can’t get better than the traditional Napoletana (Neapolitan) Pizza at Siamo Nel Forno in Palermo Hollywood.

Argentinian Pizza vs Italian Pizza: What’s the Difference?

Argentinian-style pizza has a thicker and denser crust than traditional Italian pizza and comes with A LOT of cheese. Typically, it is topped with several green olives, caramelized onions, or an array of other traditional (or less-traditional) pizza toppings. Argentines are very passionate about their style of pizza and it has become a Buenos Aires staple.

Italians are equally (if not more) proud of their own pizza variations, given Italy is where pizza originates from. Italian pizza comes in different varieties, but generally has less cheese and a softer crust than its Argentinian counterpart. A classic Napoletana pizza has a soft and crunchy crust with fewer toppings, whereas pizza Romana is thin and crispy and pizza Siciliana is thick and spongy.

Where is the BEST Pizza in Buenos Aires?

If you’re looking to have a true Buenos Aires experience, trying a typical cheesy Argentinian pizza is a must. Although beware – after a couple of slices you will already be filling up and you can really feel the cheese. But, if you are a big cheese lover (or are really hungry), this pizza will hit the spot.

However, for us, there is nothing like a traditional Napoletana pizza – when the crusts are as delicious as the toppings! Although this can be hard to track down in Buenos Aires, luckily, we found Siamo Nel Forno in Palermo Hollywood. They make some of the best pizzas we’ve ever tasted (including in Italy) and, in our opinion, are by far the BEST pizza in Buenos Aires.

What makes Siamo Nel Forno So Good?

This charming restaurant in Palermo Hollywood serves the most authentic Italian pizza in Buenos Aires. What makes Siamo Nel Forno so special is that their traditional Napoletana pizzas are made from high-quality fresh ingredients and are baked in a traditional clay wood-fired pizza oven. The pizza oven and some specialty ingredients are actually even imported straight from Italy!

The pizzaiolos cook the pizzas for just a few minutes, until they are just lightly charred, with a soft and fluffy crust that is slightly crunchy along the edges. This, combined with the fresh toppings, makes for an authentic taste which is hard to find outside of Italy.

When is the Best Time to go?

Siamo Nel Forno is open every day, except Mondays, from 7pm until midnight. They don’t take reservations, but the wait for a table is never very long – about 20 to 30 minutes at their busiest.

If you want to skip the queues, arrive at 7pm to secure a table straight away. Alternatively, we found that around 9pm was a great time to arrive. This is when most diners from the first sitting are finishing up, and just before the later diners arrive. Between 10 and 11 pm is a common time to eat in Buenos Aires, so after 9:30pm Siamo Nel Forno can get quite busy.

How much does it cost?

Given the quality of the food, the prices at Siamo Nel Forno are very reasonable. The pizzas are priced between 900 to 1,900 pesos (about $5 to $10 USD) each.

In total, you can expect to spend about 6,000 pesos ($31 USD) on dinner for two. (Although this is about half if you’re using the blue rate!) This would get you two pizzas, one appetizer and one dessert to share, and a drink each. This will be plenty of food and you will leave feeling very full.

What to Expect

When you arrive, if no tables are available, you can put your name on the waitlist and you will be asked to wait outside the restaurant. During busy times, there will likely be several groups waiting with you for a table. If you’re in the mood for an aperitif, you can always order a drink to have outside while you wait.

Most of the seating at Siamo Nel Forno is inside, in a warm and fun setting which is fuss-free. The kitchen is open, so from most tables, you can see the Pizzaiolos working their magic.

There is also outdoor seating available at the front of the restaurant (weather permitting). On a warm evening, it is especially nice to sit outside sipping a cold drink while people-watching and enjoying your pizza.

To start your meal the servers bring you some complimentary focaccia, which goes great with their extra virgin olive oil.

In terms of service, although the staff are busy, they are quick to take orders and very friendly. We were pleased with how attentive they were compared to many other restaurants we have experienced in Buenos Aires. If ever we needed anything, it was easy to get their attention and they were always happy to help.

What Should You Order?

There are not too many choices on the menu at Siamo Nel Forno. Although the options are limited, there is something to suit everyone’s tastes and what they do, they do well!

Pizza

When eating authentic Napoletana pizza, you can never go wrong with a Margherita. The Margherita at Siamo Nel Forno is simple and classic – a tomato sauce base, topped with fresh mozzarella, basil and sea salt. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

If you’re a mushroom lover, try the Boscaiola pizza. Topped with an array of different mushrooms, mozzarella and salty pancetta, this indulgent pizza really hits the spot.

The Bologna is another favourite on the Siamo Nel Forno menu and is topped with spinach for a healthier option. But don’t let that fool you as it doesn’t compromise on taste. The Bologna also comes with garlic, mortadella, parmesan, and mozzarella for plenty of flavour.

If these suggestions aren’t to your taste, try any of the pizzas at Siamo Nel Forno and you won’t be disappointed!

Salads and Appetizers

Siamo Nel Forno is not only about pizza – they also have some delicious salads and appetizers on the menu. And just like their pizzas, simple is best!

We suggest trying the burrata with prosciutto, or the Caprese salad. Both dishes are made from high-quality fresh ingredients and are a great way to start your meal. We recommend sharing as the portions are large, and you will want to save plenty of room for the pizza.

Desserts

Finally, no meal is complete without dessert. Siamo Nel Forno makes some of the best tiramisu in Buenos Aires. So, if you have room for it, we highly recommend giving it a go. It’s the perfect indulgence to end the meal!
