Niagara Falls is the most famous waterfall in the world. Nestled on the border between Canada and the United States, it is made up of three waterfalls: the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls (also known as the Canadian Falls).

Best Time Of Year To Visit Niagara Falls

The summer months are generally considered the best time to visit Niagara. The weather is nicest from June to August. Although this is also the busiest time!

In my opinion, September is the best time to visit as the crowds start to die down by then, but the weather is still warm and sunny.

Although, surprisingly, winter is actually also a great time to visit! Sometimes sections of the falls will freeze over which is quite a unique sight to see. Plus the landscape is particularly beautiful when it’s covered in snow.

What time of the year is Niagara Falls least busy?

Niagara is least busy in late fall and early spring, when school is still in session. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, visiting in November or April would likely be the best time.

When can you see fall colours at Niagara Falls?

Fall colours are usually at their peak in mid to late October at Niagara. However, depending on the weather, you may be able to see them as early as late September, or as late as early November.

Fall is a great time to visit Niagara. The waterfalls look particularly stunning while surrounded by hues of yellow, orange and red. And this is the absolute best time to drive the Niagara Parkway, as it’s one of the best places to see fall foliage in Ontario.

Niagara Falls FAQs

There are so many activities to do on a Niagara day trip. In particular, to get the best views of the falls I recommend doing a Niagara City Cruise, going up the Skylon Tower, or even taking a helicopter flight over the falls!

Other must-do activities in the Niagara region include driving the Niagara Parkway, visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake and doing a local winery tour.

Is there an entry fee for Niagara Falls?

No, seeing Niagara Falls is actually free. But, to fully experience the Falls, you will likely want to book some activities. To see the Falls during both the day and night, you can book a Niagara Day and Evening Tour with a boat cruise and dinner.

Can you see both sides of Niagara Falls in one day?

Yes, both sides of the falls are close to each other and are connected by the Rainbow Bridge. You can either drive or walk across to the other side. Although remember this is an international border, so you will need to have your travel documents with you to cross.
